Queen Elizabeth celebrates 70 years on the throne in 2022, the first British monarch in history to reach the landmark. In celebration, Buckingham Palace is planning four days of parties, pageants and celebrations.
The Queens seven decade reign will result in a special four day Bank Holiday weekend on 2 – 5 June 2022. During these four days, London will experience back to back celebrations to mark the special anniversary of her coronation on the 2nd June 1952.
The celebrations will begin with the standard Trooping of the Colour. This year the Queen’s cousin will accompany her. The Trooping of the Colour in 2022 will be the first public trooping of the colour since the pandemic. Over 1,400 soldiers are set to parade before Her Majesty, along with 200 horses and 400 musicians.
The second day (3rd June) will see the Queen take a Service of Thanksgiving at St Pauls Cathedral. The following day, the Queen will meet members of the Royal Family at the Derby in Epsom Downs. Later that night, Buckingham Palace is hosting a concert. The line up is yet to be announced, but it is billed to “bring together the biggest stars”.
The Sunday will see the return of large street celebrations and the Pageant Jubilation celebrations. It will feature over 5,000 people from the UK and Commonwealth performing around Buckingham Palace. It will feature street artists, theatre, music, circus acts and carnival costumes.
The world joins in celebration for the Queen.
Beacons will be lit across the Commonwealth for the Queen. The Isle of Man, Channel Island, and Overseas Island will see bonfires lit across the commonwealth over the weekend.
Royal Communications have announced that, in addition to the weekend, there will be a year of celebrations. The celebrations will see the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and countries across the world coming together to mark the Queen’s historic reign.
According to a report in the Tatler, fans can look forward to multiple events. The Queen and other members of the family will “travel around the country”. Celebrations will ramp up throughout the Commonwealth in build up to the big birthday celebrations.
