Christian Eriksen assures fans he is “fine”

Denmark Midfielder Christian Eriksen is assuring fans he is “fine under the circumstances” following a cardiac arrest.

Christian Erikson took to Instagram to assure fans he is fine following cardiac arrest

On Saturdays game against Finland, Christian started to stagger before collapsing to the floor. Denmark’s captain Simon Kjaer rushed to the player before clearing his airways. Players from both teams knew how serious the incident was, with players hurrying the medics on to the field.

Denmark’s entire team surrounded Eriksen as medics began CPR. Clearly distressed, they gave Eriksen privacy from the millions watching on TV, and fans in the stadium.

Christian Eriksen is now in the hospital, remaining in a stable condition. Taking to Instagram, he thanked his fans for their “sweet and amazing greetings and messages”.

While he is not out of the woods yet, still undergoing examinations, he assures us that he is “fine under the circumstances”. He is looking forward to supporting his fellow team members in the next matches. He finishes his post with “Play for all of Denmark”.

Christian Eriksen’s fall another dark moment for football

Football has a long, proud history. However, the traumatic events that befell Christian Eriksen are not unfamiliar. In top level football, more than 80 players have died suddenly during football matches. The most common cause is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a genetic condition that is carried by one in every 500 people.

Marc-Vivien Foe, a midfielder for Cameroon International and Manchester City, suddenly passed away in 2003. The death of the midfielder sent shockwaves throughout the world of international football.

Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest in 2012, watching the traumatic events unfold bought back hard memories. Talking to BBC Sport, Muamba explains it was “scary” but gave full credit to the medical team. Sending his love to Eriksen, he wished him well and hopes he will be able to play again soon.

The German team doctor Tim Meyer has said players undergo multiple health checks to ensure they are fit. Meyer told reporters “The DFB check comprehensively, I presume the Danish FA do too”
