Prime Minister Boris Johnson says July WILL happen

Despite a delay in the easing of Lockdown restrictions, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is insisting that the lockdown WILL lift in July.

Boris Johnson is trying to assure people that he WILL lift restrictions in July

There is ongoing concern throughout the UK that a continuing rise in deaths could result in Boris Johnson delaying the lockdown ease again. The Prime Minister is insisting the delay in the ease of measurements is necessary to stop the spread of the Delta Variant.

The Conservative MPs have expressed concern that delays could remain for longer if deaths return to hundreds a day. Professor Graham Medley of SAGE told BBC 4 that the numbers are low, but “everyone expects they will rise”.

Not all of the restrictions will remain in place. Weddings will no longer have a limit on the amount of guests who can come to a wedding, however they will need to socially distance.

When making the announcement of a delay, Boris Johnson said July 19th with be a “terminus day”. The delay is to allow more people to receive their vaccination so to not overwhelm the NHS. On the 19th, all remaining restrictions on social distancing will be lifted.

Cabinet Minister Michael Gove shares the Prime Ministers confidence. Talking to BBC Breakfast, Gove said that whilst “you can not predict the future with perfect confidence”, the increased levels of vaccination “should allow us to further relax restrictions”.

Boris Johnson on a mission to give all adults a vaccine

Nearly 41.7 million people in the UK have received their first dose of the vaccine, while 30 million have been fully immunised. Boris Johnson, along with his Government, is looking to give all adults at least one dose by the end of July.

Sir Simon Stevens is the Chief Executive of the NHS in England. He confirms that the health service hope to “finish the job” of vaccinating people. Speaking to the NHS Confederation Conference, he says it is “now very important” that we use the next four weeks to finish the job to “the greatest extent”.

He also confirms that from today, those aged from 23 to 24 will be able to book their jab. He is hopeful that they will bee able to open the National Booking Service to adults aged 18 “by the end of the week.”

Mr Stevens warn that the vaccine supply is still under strain, so they are currently pacing themselves. He went on to confirm that there are more vaccines coming between now and July 19th.
