A Breast Cancer Treatment, which takes five minutes to administer, is being rolled out across the country today. The new remedy combines two treatments into one single injection, cutting treatment times by almost three hours. A woman with Breast Cancer who has received the injection, says she “feels amazing”.
Paula Lamb received her Breast Cancer diagnosis in 2014, and has spent two hours in hospital every three weeks. Paula’s consultant at the Merseyside Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) is delighted to provide this revolutionary treatment.
The injection combines Pertuzumab and Trastuzumab. The singular jab eliminates the need for two intravenous treatments, saving hours.
Revolutionising Breast Cancer Treatment
Mrs Lamb has received both medication, along with chemotherapy, and says “it is great to get the same drugs in one injection that only takes a few minutes”.
She added “It did sting a little, but then it was fine. Now I am free to go off and do what I want instead of being sat here for a few hours”
The treatment will be given to patients with HER2-positive Breast Cancer, equating to 15% of patients.
Peter Johnson, the National Clincal Director for Cancer, is positive this will make a difference.
The NHS has continued to adopt new treatments rapidly throughout the pandemic to improve cancer care for patients. Phesgo is the latest in a series of changed which have meant the NHS has been able to deliver vital cancer treatment while keeping patients safe from Covid.
