A school teacher is banned from teaching for three years after taking pupils to a strip club during a school trip. After the three years, he can apply for the ban to be lifted.
A teacher of computer science at Longridge Towers, a prestigious private school, Mr Glenn admitted gross misconduct after being sent home early from the school trip to Costa Rica in 2019.
On the 5th July 2019, Mr Glenn lead a group of teenagers aged 16 – 18 year old. Whilst heavily intoxicated, he took the pupils to a strip club where he drank with them.
During the ill fated trip, the teacher had a lot of offences listed against him, resulting in him being sent home six days early. The disciplinary panel were quick to add there was no sexual or malicious motivation in Mr Glenn’s actions.
Not just a strip club…
The act of taking pupils in his care to a strip club, and engaging in underage drinking with them, would be enough to see him disciplined. However, this is not the only discretion he partook in.
A heavily intoxicated Mr Glenn had also used threatening behaviour. He also threatened to kick a pupils head in, and acted aggressively manner to the woman leading the trip. He also exposed himself within a shared hotel room, but again this was not in a malicious or sexual manner.
The disciplinary panel commented that his actions placed one or more pupils at risk. Mr Glenn added that he knew his behaviour was “inappropriate and unprofessional”. He can not actually remember anything, due to the extent of his drinking, but he did not argue with the memory of those who were there.
The panel concluded in their report that his behaviour left pupils in danger. Due to his alcohol consumption, he was not in a position to look after the children or make decisions if any emergencies occurred.
The students, in a foreign country, would have been looking to him for guidance. As an experienced teacher, MR Glenn was well aware of the conduct expected of him. His actions fell short of the standards teachers are held to.
