Killed community officer last seen on dog walk - Murder of Julia James

A murder investigation was launched after her body was found in Akholt Wood, near Dover, Kent, just after 16:00pm on Tuesday. The woodlands is a popular spot with dog walkers.

The 53 year old support officer was off duty at the time. She was last seen by a neighbour leaving her home on Tuesday afternoon to take her dog for a walk.

The hunt for Julia James’ killer continues

There is a heavy police presence in the area since Ms James’ body was discovered. It is a very rural area, and a lot of places are cordoned off. A white police tent is still in place at the site in the woods, and police are carrying out fingertip searches of woodland and nearby fields. A few hundred metres away, a house with a car and a van parked on the drive is still under police guard.

Ms James served as a police community support officer on the Kent Police force. Her colleagues say they are pursuing “a number of lines of inquiry” into her death. It is a fast moving investigation, but very difficult for officers looking into a murder of one of their own.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Ayling says it has been “a tough day for many” on the force, who were “shattered” following the loss of one of their own.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, and ask anybody who was in the area on Monday or Tuesday to come forward.
