Meghan Markle says women ‘more affected’ by Covid 19

In her first solo TV appearance since leaving England, Meghan Markle has explained women are “disproportionately affected” by Covid 19. In a pre-recorded message, she asks for Vaccine Equity so the world can move forward.

Meghan Markle highlighted the plight of women during Covid 19 - with 5.5 million losing their jobs

The video of a very heavily pregnant Meghan was played during the Global Citizen VAX Live Concert. This concert asks world leaders to make the vaccine available for everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Global superstars such as Foo Fighters, Jennifer Lopez and H.E.R.

Meghan, who dropped her surname following her marriage to Prince Harry, praises how we have come together as a community. Working together to fight Covid-19, but calls for us to work harder and not give up now. Both Meghan and Harry are campaign chairs for VAX live, an organisation that calls for the prioritisation of the safety of everyone. Meghan, who is pregnant with her daughter, explains women have been affected by the pandemic worse than men.

Since the start of the pandemic, 5.5 million women in the US have become unemployed and 47 million more are going to slip into ‘extreme poverty’ if predictions come true.

The couple have called on the vaccine firms Aztra Zenica, Pfizer and Moderna to suspend the intellectual property rights to the vaccine so a global production can happen.

A nervous Meghan Markle

Meghan seemed nervous in her video, addressing the nation in a more formal stance then we have seen previously.

Discussing a future she wants for her unborn daughter, she explains that herself and Harry think of her future. A future where she can have the ability and support going forward.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the UK, and Royal Family, last year. A tell all interview with Oprah left the UK reeling after allegations of racism and unfeeling within the firm. In footage replicant of Diana’s, Meghan revealed she had reached out after suffering from suicidal thoughts, but the monarchy would not help her.

Last month, Harry returned to the UK to attend his Grandfathers funeral. A heavily pregnant Meghan stayed in the US with Archie.
