American actor Norman Lloyd dies at 106 and tributes are being paid across the world. He starred with Alfred Hitchcock, then later on went to act in St Elsewhere – a medical drama.
A colleague of Lloyd’s and director of his appearance in Trainwreck (2015) went on to say how lovely he was and how he was known for telling stories and making everyone giggle.
He was complimented on his acting skill by Ben Stiller. Norman worked and starred in films Dead Poets Society, Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight and many more.
Dr Daniel Aushchlander, was also played by Norman Lloyd in six seasons of St Elsewhere.
Norman Lloyd Career Journey
Norman was born and bought up in New Jersey in 1914, who the went on to start his stage career in the 1930s.
In 1942 Norman starred in thriller Saboteur, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It was one of his earliest films in which his titular German spy falls to his death from the top of the famous Statue of Liberty in New York.
Director, Hitchcock, then cast him again in Spellbound in 1945. This then lead to Albert employing him to direct and produce episodes of his Albert Hitchcock Presents TV series.
Charlie Chaplin’s 1952 film Limelight was another hit of Lloyd’s. He was cast in the film by Chaplin because of their friendship and love for tennis.
Later on in the 1989’s he worked alongside Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke in Dead Poets Society.
Judd Apatow posted on Instagram in memory of Norman which followed by a lovely caption containing a funny conversation quote with him.
