Cineworld Opening weekend helped by Peter Rabbit

Movie lovers flocked to Cineworld venues across the UK this weekend, as the cinema chain celebrated a strong return. The most popular movie was Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.

Cineworld cinemas enjoyed a strong opening weekend, with hopes that they will now see a good recovery of losses in up coming months

The attendance to the popular chain even surprised Cineworld staff. The popularity has inspired hope in Cineworld managers who expect “a good recovery in attendance over the coming months”.

Families wanting to spend time together flocked to the cinema to enjoy some much deserved quality time. Concessions saw an large increase as families bought popcorn, sweets and drinks to enjoy.

The strong opening weekend will be a welcome beacon to the US chain of cinema screens. Covid 19 saw huge losses and closures throughout the chain. Talks throughout November were attempting to save the Cinema chain, should the worst happen. Luckily for Cineworld, it is now anticipating a good recovery in upcoming months based on the attendance numbers.

Cineworld cautiously celebrate 97% US cinema’s reopening

Cineworld is celebrating the opening of its UK cinemas and 97% of its US cinema screens, with the rest due to open by the end of the month.

The opening crowds will continue during upcoming weeks with films like The Quiet Place 2 and Cruella due for release in the upcoming weeks. Whilst optimistic, investment director Russ Mould is cautious that the increase in movie viewers is down to a weekend of atrocious weather. He warns that the cinema can not rely on the weather, it needs to release “quality films”. Mr Mould believes the high profit films “are not being released until summer”.

However, Chief Executive Mooky Greidinger refutes this. He believes that the attendance figures are due to the screens “improving consumer confidence” along with the fast paced vaccination rollout.

The movie industry has seen numerous film releases delayed, causing a 70% loss in global box office takings. Box office hits like James Bond No Time to Die, which are guaranteed to fill up cinema screens, are not in cinemas yet due to Covid.

Greidinger believes the popularity will continue as “customers want to experience the magic of the big screen entertainment again”. He went on to thank the “hard work of colleagues around the world who remain committed to be the best place to watch a movie”
