Global superstar Demi Lovato has told fans that they are non binary. Furthermore, they want to be referred to using the they/them pronouns.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Demi is “happy to share more” of their life with fans. Continuing, they announced, they are “proud to let you know that I identify as non binary and will officially be changing my pronouns moving forward”.
Demi has spent a long period of time exploring their gender identity. They have been spending time conducting “healing and reflective work”. Demi reveals the self reflection revealed that the changing of pronouns “best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression”.
In March, Demi revealed they are pan sexual. This term pan sexual means someone is attracted to people regardless of their gender. The singer is still “learning and coming in to myself”. They do not consider themselves as an expert, but wants to come forward so fans who have not shared their truth with family do not feel alone.

Stars such as Nick Jonas joined Demi in cancelling tour dates due to the passing of an anti LGBT bill in North Carolina. This is the latest in Demi’s ongoing battle to support the rights of the LGBTQ community.
During pride month, the singer wrote a letter to the LGBTQ community. In the letter, Demi detailed how every news announcement of discrimination and setback breaks their heart.
They campaigned for equal marriage before it became legal in 2015. During the campaign, they became the face of the Humans Right Campaigns Americans for Marriage Equality Initiative.
In 2016, the LGBTQ fighter, won a Vanguard Award for their work leading the fight. The 2014 video for ‘Really Don’t Care’ featured a gay couple kissing, was filmed at LA’s Pride festival and featured transgender dancers.
In 2018, Demi was admitted into hospital following an overdose. In a lengthy Twitter thread, Demi reveals part of the reason is because “they were ignoring their truths…I truly believe gender is just another boundary.”
Their relationship with ex fiance Max Ehrich broke down in 2020, just months after they announced their engagement. Since the break up, the singer has opened up about the reasons behind the split. They reveal that one of the reasons was they are “too queer” to be involved with a Cisgender man.
