The high court rules that the Government giving the Covid contract to a friend of the Prime Ministers former Chief advisor Dominic Cummings was unlawful.
The contract, which is worth £560,000, shows favouritism towards marketing agency Public First. The judge found a real “dangerous bias” was shown by failing to consider other firms. Ministers deny these allegations.
The legal action taken against the cabinet began at the beginning of the Pandemic last March. Campaigners took legal action, questioning the involvement of Dominic Cummings in the contractual win.
Public First looks into the peoples understanding of the pandemic. The Good Project Lawyers accuse the Government of choosing a focus group firm whose colleagues were former colleagues of Cummings. Rachel Wolf and James Frayne, the firms bosses, know both Cummings and Cabinet Officer minister Michael Gove.
The Government denies all allegations of misconduct
The Government, and former chief advisor Dominic Cummings, denies these allegations. In a witness statement, Mr Cummings justifies the extra money spent as “the country was facing an unprecedented national emergency”
Mr Cummings called the excess thousands as “trivial” to helping saving thousands of lives and minimise destruction.
After the High Court Ruling found the Governments actions unlawful, the Good Project released a statement. They describes the Government as “not for the public good” but for the “good of the Conservative Party”.
However, Public First say they are “deeply proud of the work they do”. In the early stages of the pandemic, they believe their work is helping to save lives. Continuing, he says that the judge has found no evidence of the claims made by the Good Law Project.
