Denis Fawsitt, 80, normally uses family birthdays on his Euromillions lottery ticket. After forgetting his glasses, meaning he couldn’t see the numbers, he opted for a lucky dip. Mr Fawcett described it as “his best decision ever”, while collecting his winnings of over £100,000.
The couple play the Euromillions every week, buying their tickets from the co-operative store each week. Mr Fawsitt, upon realising he had left his glasses at home, attempted to pick his numbers but couldn’t. The retired couple matched five numbers and the lucky star.
“After what happened in the newsagent, I had this funny feeling we were going to win. I said to my wife Ann that evening that I felt we were going to win big.”

After checking his ticket in the machine, staff at the Co Operative told him to ring Camelot. Denis’s daughter did this on his behalf.
Whats next for the Euromillions winners?
The Fawsitt’s didn’t celebrate in style, there was no dancing and singing. “Especially with Denis’s bad back” added Anna. Instead, Denis had a drink of whiskey while Anna enjoyed a glass of Sherry. They hid the winning ticket in the living room until a member of the National Lottery could validate it.
Once the winning number was confirmed, it was time to celebrate. “We did have a glass of fizz or two” says Anna. The couple plan to re decorate their home and throw a party when Covid is over. However, in a heart warming gesture, they plan to give a lot to members of their family.
“We’ve had our time, its theirs now…the money will help them more than us.”
