The star, who plays Shuri, Princess of Wakanda, received hospital treatment for minor injuries sustained in a “stunt rig accident”. No details on the nature of the injury are revealed, but the actress remained at the hospital for several hours.

The overnight film shoot in Boston took place separately to the main production happening in Atlanta. Thankfully, the incident is unlikely to affect the shooting schedule for the superhero movie.

Full plot details for the upcoming movie sequel are being kept tightly under wraps. However, the story expects to continue exploring the technologically-advanced African nation of Wakanda. Events of the film will reportedly follow the death of King T’Challa, the character played by the late actor Chadwick Boseman. Film studio Marvel confirm they are not recasting Boseman’s role, and there are no plans to use digital effects to include him.

Wright is one of a number of returning stars in the film, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She is joined by Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Angela Bassett. British star Michaela Coel is joining the cast in an unknown role. While Dominique Thorne will also make her debut in the new Black Panther film. She is due to play the superhero Ironheart in a forthcoming Disney Plus TV series.

Honouring Boseman

Production started on the movie sequel in June, with Ryan Coogler returning to the director’s chair.

He previously spoke about the challenges of continuing the story without Boseman, who passed away last year following a secret battle with colon cancer. Coogler says that Boseman “was like the glue that held it together”, and it is difficult to keep the project going without him. He describes it as “one of the more profound things that I’ve ever gone through in my life”.

According to British actor Kaluuya, who plays T’Challa’s second-in-command W’Kabi, the sequel aims to honour the late star. He says that the thing that’s most important to him is the “legacy of Chadwick Boseman” rather than that of Black Panther. “Because that’s a human being and a spirit that is real”. He sees it as “our duty to honour” him for his work and what he has done for us.
