Line of Duty stars to get ‘AC12million’ tattoos following 12 million views

Will the Line of Duty stars get matching AC12million tattoos after record breaking finale?

The stars of Line of Duty, along with writer Jed Mercurio are preparing to get a permanent reminder of the shows outstanding success. The actors are part of a pact to get “AC12million” tattoos if the finale was watched by that many people.

Martin Compston, who plays DI Steve Arnott, revealed that they made the agreement should the ‘ridiculous’ scenario happen that they reach 12 million viewers. He is calling the others out, stating “we will see who’s good to their word”. Vicki McClure, who plays DI Kate Fleming, seems to confirm she will stay true to her word, writing “We are so grateful to you all. So much so looks like I’ll have the ink to prove it!”

The finale of the Line of Duty was watched by more than 12 million people, 12.8 million to be exact. It broke records as the most watched drama in the last 20 years according to the BBC.

It is yet to be seen whether the stars will hold up to the bet.

Line of Duty finale – fans divided

At it’s peak, 13.1 million people tuned in to see DSU Ian Buckells was finally unmasked as H. This has divided loyal fans of the show, with some failing to see how Buckells could be H. The series is known for its cliff hangers, DNA reveals, armed police chases and ambushes. Most of the fans felt the last episode made the series go out with a whimper rather than a bang.

However Nigel Boyle, who plays DSU Ian Buckells, says there have been plenty of red herrings throughout the series. He believes people will now re watch the series and spot little hints and tips. He did not know that he was H himself until writer Jed Mecurio contacted him mid filming in 2020.

The series stopped filming mid lockdown, after they read the first four scripts. Jed sent Boyle a message saying “are you free for a chat at some point today? Don’t worry, its not that call…”.

The actor continued “I had fully bought into the idea that Buckells was low on the competence levels but looking back it all makes sense. H has led us with really good Red Herrings…I didn’t really pay attention to things like Buckell’s golf clubs but I clearly should have”

When asked on BBC Breakfast whether there would be another series, Buckell replied that he hoped so but he doesn’t know.
