Health Secretary Matt Hancock, 42, is accused of having an affair after pictures emerge of him in a clinch with 43 year old adviser Gina Coladangelo. He is seen kissing his close aide during the Covid pandemic in his office at the Department of Health’s HQ in London.
Mr Hancock is married for 15 years to his wife Martha Hoyer Millar, with who he has three children. He was caught embracing mother of three Gina Coladangelo, who is married to the founder of fashion firm Oliver Bonas. CCTV images show the couple kissing. The pair first met in the early 2000s at Oxford University, and last year he controversially hired her in a taxpayer funded role.
After the accusations emerged on Friday morning of her husband cheating, Mrs Hancock was pictured still wearing her wedding ring as she left their home.
The Health Secretary refuses to comment on the claims of his extra-marital activities. Instead, he is focusing his attentions on continuing the UK’s fight against coronavirus. A source close to Mr Hancock says, “He has no comment on personal matters. No rules have been broken”.
Meanwhile, a source at Whitehall calls Mr Hancock’s behaviour “in the middle of a pandemic with an adviser and friend he used public money to hire” shocking.
Rumours have apparently circulated within the department for some time, and colleagues openly discussed it on WhatsApp. According to a whistleblower, Mr Hancock and Mrs Coladangelo have “regularly” been caught together. Attempts to keep it secret are not successful, and everybody in the building knows what is going on. They add, “I’m just amazed he was so brazen about it as he was the Secretary of State”.
‘Poor man’
People are shocked by the allegations because Mr Hancock placed her in such an important publicly funded role. To think that “this is what they get up to in office hours when everyone else is working hard”.
The claims could not have come at a worse time. The Health Secretary is already facing pressures after damning evidence from former No. 10 adviser Dominic Cummings. The ex aide claimed PM Boris Johnson labelled Mr Hancock “totally f***ing useless” during the early stages of the pandemic. In further blows, he was also accused of lying about PPE provisions and failing care homes, as well as blamed for the expense and failings of the Test and Trace system. Cummings suggested that Mr Hancock should have been sacked for his lies and fatal failures.
Earlier this week, the Queen sympathised with Hancock, referring to him as “poor man” in a clip released from a meeting with Mr Johnson.
