The BBC have finally announced when the rescheduled Masterchef final will air. The episode was moved from the schedules following the channel’s decision to pull all non news programs on the day of Prince Philip’s death.
The final episode of the hit BBC One show will air on Wednesday evening. It was postponed on Friday following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Fans of the long-running cooking show were left wondering when they would get to see who wins the title. They have been waiting eagerly for the announcement.
The BBC Press Office confirmed the new air date today via Twitter. The episode in question will now be broadcast at 8pm on their main channel. It will also be available to viewers on their digital outlet BBC iPlayer.
The finale of the cooking series was due to air at 9pm on Friday. However, the BBC suspended its scheduled programming to cover Prince Philip’s death at the age of 99. The change to listings meant that Instead of airing their planned television schedule, all shows were replaced by news programs.
Other programs affected that night include EastEnders, which aired a second extra episode yesterday to make up for it. BBC Four was even taken completely off air.
A Record Number of Complaints
The move to cancel all viewing on Friday caused the BBC to receive a record number of complaints. Viewers complained that coverage of the duke’s death was excessive, and were not happy with the altered TV scheduling.
The BBC responded by saying they “are proud of our coverage and the role we play during moments of national significance.” They have however, set up a page on their website especially for people who want to complain.
Masterchef, presented by Gregg Wallace and John Torode, hit our screens way back in 1990, and is now in its 17th series. News of the air date means fans can now finally get to see amateur chefs Mike Tomkins, Alexina Anatole and Tom Rhodes battle it out to be crowned winner.
