Kevin Clark, who famously played the cheeky drummer in School of Rock, has died following a road traffic accident. Heartbroken Co star Jack Black leads tributes from the entire School of Rock community.
The actor, who starred in the hit film at just 12, was cycling in Avondale when he was hit early Wednesday morning. The driver of the car has not been arrested, but has a written citation to answer a charge in Court.
Despite paramedics best efforts, Kevin died from his injuries in hospital.
Jack Black, who played Dewey Finn in School of Rock, shared a tribute on his Instagram page. A more current picture of him and Kevin celebrating. In the caption underneath, the star shares the devastating news “Kevin is gone. Way to soon”. He finishes the moving tribute simply by sending love “to his family and the whole School of Rock community”.
School of Rock displays drumming prodigy
Kevin plays over confident Freddy “spazzy Mcgee” Jones in the hit rock film. Kevin landed the role in 2003 after friend encouraged him to answer an advert looking for 10 to 12 year olds who could play an instrument.
A keen drummer, beginning at just 5 years old, Kevin starred in School of Rock aged 12. Playing the iconic Iron Man during his audition, his mum Allison recalls he knew he got the part before she did. She was in a store picking up pizza, when she returned to the car, Clark turned to her and asked if she “wanted to go to New York”.
School of Rock is the only acting credit to Kevin’s name, as his passion lays in music rather than acting. “He wasn’t an actor, he wasn’t even thinking of being an actor” recalls his mum.
The love of music ran through Kevins blood. The weekend before his accident, he was performing with his new band Jess Bess and the Intentions. Telling his bandmates he “finally found the life I want to live. We are going to make it”
The stars of School of Rock including Miranda Cosgrove and Rivkah Reyes have shared touching tributes on their social media pages, as well as calling Allison personally.
Allison believes Kevin is now “jamming in the sky”. A tribute is planned for Wednesday night at Teddy O’Briens in Highwood.
