The iconic line “Just like that…” which millions of fans link to Sex and the City is coming back. Production is underway on the next series, with three of the four stars returning to the hit show.
The new series, which will return to HBO max, will follow the friends lives after the film in 2010. Sharing a picture on Instagram; Sarah-Jessica Parker said she, along with Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis, have began reading through the first episodes.
Describing the reunion as “an ice cream sundae”, Sarah-Jessica also reveals that there are new cast members entering the girl led universe. Fans of Carrie Bradshaw and Bigs relationship are overjoyed by the announcement that Chris North is set to reprise his role.
Sarah Aubrey, head of content at HBO max, is excited to bring the series back. Talking in an interview with Vanity Fair, she said “she grew up with these characters” and can not wait to show how the characters lives are changing and evolving. The new series will have a nostalgic feel with the “honesty, humor and poignancy” of the original series. Of course, the iconic New York back drop will be another main character, as in the first series.
Why is Samantha not in Sex and the City revival?
It is a well known fact that Samantha will not be returning to Sex and the City. Actress Kim Cattrall who plays Samantha Jones is said to have had an ongoing feud with Sarah-Jessica Parker behind the scenes.
While Sarah denies a feud and continually refuses to address rumours, rumours were ‘confirmed’ by Cattrall in 2018. Kim’s brother was discovered deceased in Canada after going missing. When Sarah bought it up in an interview, Kim could not stop herself.
Taking to Instagram, Kim said her mum had called Sarah a “hypocrite” before asking when she would live Kim alone. Continuing, Kim made her feelings clear, saying “you are not my family. You are not my friend”.
Claiming Sarah’s “nice girl persona” is fake, an act for the journalists, Kim posted a link to an article. The article, which has never been removed, is titled “Inside the mean-girls culture that destroyed Sex and the city’. The article details the ongoing ‘isolation’ of Cattrall on the Sex and the City set, with Sarah even renting a house for the three returning stars but not Kim.
Following rumours of the third move being delayed due to Kim’s ‘diva demands’, Kim booked an interview with Piers Morgan and bared all. Describing her relationship with the SATC star as “toxic”, the then 61 year old said she had “never been friends”.
It as been confirmed that Cattrall will not be returning, but we are yet to find out how they will discuss Samantha’s disappearance.
