Taylor Swift wins Global Icon at the BRITs, making a mark as she is the first woman ever to be awarded this prize.
Today, 11th May 2021, Taylor Swift will be handed the gong at London’s O2 Arena. This will also be the first large event to take place since last year when the pandemic started.
Taylor recently released a new re-recorded version of her track fearless and has been recognised for a number of incredible achievements throughout her singing career.
On top of being winning the Global Icon award, the 31-year-old singer has also been nominated in the international female solo artist category at this years BRITs. Taylor has won 6 nod to date.
The re-recorded track -Fearless – was her seventh UK number one last month. Alongside this achievement, it was her third chart-topping record in less than a year.
Taylor Swift two albums during the pandemic
Regardless of the world going through a pandemic, Taylor surprised fans and released two albums – folklore and evermore. Both of the albums were toned down and relaxed, in comparison to her usual up beat cheesy pop.
The 2021 BRITs have seen a rise in females dominating the album category. Singers such as Arlo Parks, Dua Lipa, Celeste and Jessie Ware are in the running against rapper J Hus.
There will be a pilot audience , around 4,000 people at the O2 Arena, launched by the government with viewers not having to wear masks or social distance.
Performances from Colplay, Olivia Rodriguez and Dua Lipa will take place. Jake Whitehall will be hosting the BRITs once again!
