With celebrities such as Tom Cruise and huge streaming networks boycotting the Golden Globes, the HFPA has put together a proposal of changes which they will implement going forward.
The plans include hiring more employees, with an emphasis on black members and diversity advisors, by 50% over the next year and a half. They will also publish a list of their members, removing its existing secrecy and rules surrounding admissions.
Finally, the plans include mandatory sexual harassment, diversity and inclusion training for all existing and future members.
Times Up are calling the statement a “window-dressing platitude”. Avenger stars Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo voiced their anger at the proposal. Ms Johansson recalls questions by the HFPA leaving her uncomfortable by bordering on sexual harassment. Mark, who plays The Hulk, reveals “now is the time to step up and right the wrongs of the past”.
A timeline, published by the HFPA, reveals a new board will be brought in by August 2021. NBC will not broadcast the awards until the organisation executes its plan. A statement reveals they hope to broadcast the show in January 2023.
