Police in Pakistan are searching for two men on suspicion of murder after the body of Mayra Zulfiqar was found in Lahore on Monday.
Mayra Zulfiqar, also known as Mahira, was just 24 when she was discovered by her Uncle in a pool of her own blood. The initial post mortem report cited the cause of death as shooting, with gunshot wounds on her neck and arm. A phone, found by her body, is undergoing analysis by the police. CCTV footage is being reviewed in the hopes of new suspects or leads.
The law graduate, who had flown to Pakistan from Feltham in South West London, was staying with a friend following Lockdown travel rules changing. The graduate was complaining of the cost of a 10 day quarantine in UK, estimated at £1,750. Instead, she was staying with a friend until the country was lifted from the red flight list.
Police are investigating the murder, following rumors that Mayra was rejecting two men’s marriage proposals. Neighbours report hearing two gunshots and screaming on the night of the murder. Mayra’s body was found in a bedroom on the second floor. Her Uncle, Mr Nazeer, said she had become involved in a dispute with two males after she rejected their proposals.
Sayyad Ali, an operations superintendent for Punjab Police, told newspaper publication Dawn that “they are after two suspects and will share further details at a later stage”.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said they are supporting the family of Miss Zulfiqar and are urgently trying to get more details from local authorities.

Two funerals have been held for Ms Zulfiqar, one in Lahore and a special memorial service in Hounslow, West London. Faizan Muhammed was in attendance of his sisters memorial service, but stated his father had left for Pakistan.
Ziaur Rehman runs a market stall in Feltham. Ms Zulfiqar had babysat his three children when they were younger, forming a special bond with the family. Describing her as “a very happy, friendly kind person”.
Mr Rehman went on, explaining that Ms Zulfiqar’s mother is not well, struggling to come to terms with the shocking killing of her daughter.
