The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate, are celebrating 10 years of marriage today. Two portraits of the couple were released today to commemorate the day.
The photos, taken by Chris Floyd, show the couple relaxed on the grounds of Kensington Palace. Despite being posed photographs, Kate appears to be laughing in both of them. In addition to releasing the photos, the official social media accounts of the Monarchy congratulated the couple of a decade of marital bliss.

Following an eight year relationship, Prince William and Kate married in Westminster Abbey on 29th April 2011. They currently have three children; Prince George (7), Princess Charlotte (5) and Prince Louis (3). Rumours are circulating that Kate is pregnant with her fourth child, although this has not been confirmed.
During the Coronavirus lockdown, William and Kate became joint patrons of NHS Charities. These charities help provide extra funding for UK hospitals along with community and mental health services. The services which, despite always being vital, have never been more needed than they have in the last two years.
Like much of the world, the Duke and Duchess have worked from home for the majority of the year. They have home schooled their children, baked food for local people who are vulnerable and carried out a multitude of phone calls in replacement of public engagements.
Prince William and Kate – a real life fairy tale
As William and Kate celebrate their tenth anniversary, we look back at the fairy tale romance which started back in 2001. Kate and William both attended St Andrews University, where His Royal Highness studied geography and Kate chose art history. In their second years, William and Kate became room mates along with others. In their engagement interview, Prince William says the relationship started then.
The public and the press didn’t become aware of the relationship for three years. In 2004, the couple took a vacation skiing in Klosters. This is the first time the press has reported they are a couple.
Pressure in the public eye
A photo of the couple, taken by Kate’s parents, shows the couple celebrating their graduation together. In 2006, in a public debut of sorts, William and Kate attended the wedding of Williams father Prince Charles to Camilla. Later that year, Kate watched as William graduated from the Royal Military academy. The event was attended by the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Rumours surrounding the engagement of the couple began…but then they announced their split.
In 2007, the couple split briefly. It has been speculated that this was to let Kate decide if a royal future is for her. In their engagement interview, Kate said she wasn’t happy about it but it made her stronger over all. A few months after they were seen together again at Klosters, the Duchess to be supported William at a RAF function.
In 2010, following a brief holiday in Kenya, Prince William proposed to Kate. In the engagement interview, it was noted that William had used his late mothers ring. He said “it was his way to keep his mother close”.
A year later, the couple said I Do as millions of people watched around the world. This is when they formally became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, titles bestowed to them by the Queen on their wedding day. The Royals have steadily grown their family, welcoming children in 2013, 2015 and 2018.
